This event will bring together leaders from across the quantum, defence and security landscape to examine how emerging quantum technologies could move from promising research and prototypes towards real-world adoption in national security applications. It will provide an opportunity to share practical perspectives, identify barriers across different technology areas, and consider the actions needed to support the UK's emerging quantum defence and security capabilities.

The discussion will explore the current maturity and potential of technologies including quantum sensing, positioning, navigation and timing (PNT), quantum key distribution (QKD), and post-quantum cryptography (PQC), alongside the practical barriers that can slow their transition from the laboratory into operational environments. Speakers will consider the challenges created by security classifications, strategic export controls, accreditation and procurement pathways, as well as the gap between technology readiness and the requirements of field-deployable systems.

There will be a workshop examining the so-called “valley of death” between prototype development and procurement, and how to bridge this gap. Participants will explore existing support and funding mechanisms, and identify where further coordination, collaboration or co-investment is needed.
